In this case of first impression under California Labor Law Plaintiffs alleged that Defendants had a policy of failing to compensate non-union longshoremen for all hours worked while under the control of the employer. It was additionally alleged that Defendants engaged in illegal payroll deductions to pay for the overhead of their business and had an illegal policy of indiscriminately "slashing" time from longshoremen paychecks. Just prior to the hearing on Plaintiffs' Motion for Summary Adjudication of Issues the parties agreed to a settlement totalling just under 13 million dollars.
